Cafecito Scheme

At Latin Girls At Work we do mentorship differently.

Welcome to Cafecito, a free professional advice scheme where we connect experienced UK-based female-identifying Latinx professionals with Latinx women seeking professional guidance related to a particular field of work or study, having a specific query, or even for CV and interview tips.

The Idea Behind “Cafecito”

Those seeking advice are not paired with a single advisor, and those giving advice are not paired with a single service user.

There is no defined time commitment. Instead, service users with questions or 'Cafecito meeting requests' can get their questions answered by other Latinx professionals with expertise in the field or field of interest, and advisors receive requests to answer questions and meet with service users seeking advice.

Different from traditional mentorship programmes, Cafecito is a task-oriented advice scheme where we connect advisors and service users to resolve a specific query.

The pairings are not permanent, and while relationships between advisors and service users might grow organically, this is a low-commitment scheme.

We allow both, advisors and service users to choose how they want to interact, whether they are open to meeting in person, via video or phone call, or by email.

 FAQs

  • If you have a specific question or would like a Cafecito meeting request, you can take part on the scheme by filling the form for service users above.

We will look into your query carefully, and scour our database for a suitable advisor we can put you in touch with.

When we find an advisor, we will contact them and put you in touch via email. You can then decide how you would like to interact.

It is as simple and straightforward as that!

  • We endeavour to find a suitable advisor for every query we receive, so that service users get the best possible advice and attention.

If we do not find an advisor within one week of your query being placed, we will contact you via email to let you know we are still searching for a suitable advisor.

If we do not find an advisor within two weeks, we will email you to request to keep your query open within your database while new advisors join our directory and hopefully soon we will find you the right advisor.

  • This is entirely up to you. This can be a one-off interaction by phone, video, in-person, or email, or you can continue interacting with each other for further queries and advice.

We aim to give you this flexibility, because this is a low-commitment scheme to fit around your busy schedules.

  • Absolutely. We encourage everyone, even experienced advisors, to take advantage of the scheme and get your questions answered. So fill in the service user form and let us know your question or put in a Cafecito meeting request!

  • This depends on what queries we receive from service users. We pair people based on their questions, field of work, previous work experience, areas of study, and sometimes similar backgrounds.

If we have a request that we think you would be suitable for, we will contact you via email to check if you have capacity and would like to be put in touch with the service user via email.

If you sign up to be part of our directory, it does not guarantee that you will be put in touch for a Cafecito meeting request.

  • To participate in the scheme both service users and advisors must identify as members of the Latinx community/come from a Latinx background and identify as a woman or non-binary person.
