From Picnic to Pub with Latin Girls At Work

If you’ve been following us for a while, you might remember that our first ever in-person event was a picnic in Hyde Park. This year we decided to do another picnic to meet our members and enjoy the end of summer, by talking about our cultures, lives and anything else the conversation flowed onto.

This summer was definitely short, with lower temperatures and many grey rainy days keeping us indoors, but with the forecast  looking okay for the bank holiday weekend, we made our way to London’s most famous park with snacks and blankets.

We saw some familiar faces from previous events and also met some brand new members. The greatest takeaway from the day was how everyone shared their favourite Latin American restaurant in London, helping us expand our lists of great Latin food.

Just like the last one, we were surprised by rain (maybe this is becoming tradition) but that didn’t stop us from continuing on to somewhere dry! We quickly packed up our things and found the nearest pub. We carried on with our conversations while warming up with a cup of coffee or enjoying a glass of wine. Our conversations revealed how different our experiences as Latin American women in the UK are; some having lived here for years and others having moved as recently as a few months ago, some with established careers, others finding their way after graduating university, and others looking to start their own business.

However, the thing we all have in common is our desire to connect and find community, as well as our willingness to help one another. We listened to each other, shared stories, and offered advice, and hopefully some of the connections made during this day will become long lasting friendships.

We were very pleased to see many new faces even after having hosted so many events! This shows how the Latin American community in the UK continues to grow, and how many more women are looking to meet new people and connect with the community.
