Finance and Fundraising Officer (Volunteer)

Location: United Kingdom/Remote (UK-based)

About Us: We are a registered charity operating as a network for Latinx women and non-binary people living and working in the UK. Our goal is to expand the professional and social opportunities for Latinx women by creating a platform where they can expand their networks, develop their professional skills and share experiences with a group of like-minded women. This is a group for mutual growth through collaboration, created by Latin women, for Latin women beginning their professional journey.

  • We are seeking a passionate and motivated Finance and Fundraising Officer to join our team of dedicated volunteers. As a Finance and Fundraising Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our fundraising efforts, helping us to secure the resources needed to advance our mission and expand our activities.Reporting directly to the Development Director, you will help identify, research and submit applications to grants and other funding bodies and input into the overall fundraising strategy of the organisation. In addition to maintaining relationships with funders, you will also be responsible for keeping track and recording the charity’s expenditure. The ideal candidate will have some bookkeeping or financial experience, however this is not essential and we encourage all applicants who are passionate about the organisation’s work and objectives to apply. This role is ideal for someone looking to learn more about the Charity sector, gain experience in funding and finance and develop their professional skills. We are keen to develop and tailor this role to the interests and goals of the position holder. 

    • Assist the Development Director in the submission of fundraising grant applications

    • Support the development of a new fundraising strategy

    • Lead in communications with current and potential funders

    • Identify and research funding opportunities

    • Oversee administrative tasks related to fundraising, including data entry and record-keeping

    • Assist the Development Director in structuring an annual budget Financial bookkeeping including coding expenses and keep track of expenditure

    • NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - just a strong interest in the charity sector, fundraising, an interest in learning and a passion for supporting Latinx women.

    • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Familiarity with social media and fundraising platforms is a plus.

    • Previous experience in fundraising or event planning is beneficial but not required.

    • Flexible hours; approximately 3 hours per week.

    • Duration: Permanent

    • Gain hands-on experience in charity fundraising and strategy development.

    • Contribute to meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of Latinx womxn in the UK.

    • Network with professionals and other volunteers in the nonprofit sector.

  • The role of a trustee

    Trustees work with the Chair and other members of the Board to determine the Trust’s strategy and ensure that it delivers on its charitable objectives and long-term mission. The Board is ultimately responsible for the organisation’s viability, strategic direction and legal responsibilities. In addition, Trustees should be willing to use their specific skills and expertise to support the Board and Core Team in its decision-making and will be ambassadors for the Charity, always acting in its best interests. They will also be able to form sound and balanced independent views and to challenge in a constructive and collegial manner.

  • Role description

    To take part in formulating, and regularly reviewing, the strategic aims of the organisation. 

    To work with other trustees to ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its main aims.

    To work with other trustees, to ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practices.

    To participate in overseeing the finances of the organisation and promoting a positive fundraising culture.

  • Person specification

    You must be passionate about the values and objects of the organisation and to have an interest in developing professional opportunities for Latin American womxn in the UK 

    A background in either finance, communications, law, administration, or policy is desired but not essential 

    Experience in the charity sector, particularly an understanding of the Charity Commission is desirable but not essential

    You must be able to commit to attending six Board Meetings per financial year, which will be held remotely

  • Duration of term

    Trustees may serve a term of 3 years and are eligible for re-appointment up to a maximum of 3 terms.

  • Time commitment

    To attend board meetings every two months, with a duration of 1.5 hours each, for 6 meetings per year. In addition to attending emergency meetings when required.

  • Remuneration

    Please note the role is voluntary and we cannot offer remuneration.

  • Role description

    Latin Girls At Work are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking individual with a finance or accounting background to join the Board of Trustees as our new Treasurer. 

    Assist the Finance Officer in creating a list of viable funds and a financial viability report 

    Assist the Finance Officer in developing an annual budget and a financial management policy 

    Look over funding applications written by the Finance Officer 

    Assist the Finance Officer in reporting back to funders and keeping track of all charity accounts

    Report all of our accounts to the Charity Commission yearly

  • Previous experience

    Financial management experience including budgets and forecasts, cash flow, investments liquidity and financial systems 

     Strategy development and implementation

    Performance review against objectives and budgets

    Risk management and controls

    A good understanding of corporate governance ideally in the context of registered charities

  • Duration of term
